Using Soil Samplers for the Best Harvest

Soil Samplers for Best Harvest

Springtime is a wonderful yet busy time of year. Sometimes in our rush to get the spring planting in the ground it can be easy to overlook the small things, and these small things can make all the difference in the quality of our crops.

Sure there are a lot items on your to-do list before the seeds should be put in the ground, but one of the most important things to remember is getting the soil in order. This is where quality Soil Samplers come in to play. Before you get started with your planting make sure the soil you are working with is actually ready to nurture your seeds for a healthy and plentiful harvest.

James DeDecker at Michigan State University recommends you take about 20 core samples for 10 to 15 acres of soil. All you have to do is push a soil sampler into the dirt and allow the core sample to fill the tube. He goes on to recommend mixing those 20 soil samples in a clean bucket for testing. This should provide you with the most accurate results in regards to the soil conditions in a given area.

Once you have the test results you can formulate a plan to properly prepare your soil. Use of a soil sampler can save money in the long run in a few ways. First, you’ll know exactly how much and what kinds of fertilizers you need for optimal plant growth. Second, providing the proper nutrients for optimal plant growth will help maximize your harvest allowing your crops to produce more per acre.

So, as you’re preparing your next planting don’t forget the small things. A little extra preparation up front will be very rewarding at harvest time. If you have any questions about soil samplers don’t hesitate to contact us. We look forward to helping you grow your operation in any way we can.
