Good, Cheap, Fast – Service and Repair

There used to be a sign nailed next to the front door of a service and repair shop that read as follows:

“We offer three kinds of service:

GOOD – CHEAP – FAST

You can pick any two.

GOOD service CHEAP won’t be FAST

GOOD service FAST won’t be CHEAP

FAST service CHEAP won’t be GOOD”

Which kind of service and repair would you chose?

Sometimes we have no choice but need good service fast, and yes, it won’t be cheap. We all know how expensive repairs can be, just think about your tractor.  A $80,000.00 tractor will cost an average of $24,000.00 in repair during the first 5,000 hours of operation.  According to a Midwest study repair costs can be reduced by 25% if a regular maintenance program is implemented.  Good maintenance will help recognize major problems early, and hopefully result in relatively minor repairs.

Another big factor to keep your tractor running smoothly is to keep it out of the elements when not in use.  Rain, sun and snow can do a lot of harm to the machinery, which can result in high repair costs and downtime.  To store your tractor in a shed also helps keep its value.  A four wheel drive tractor that is stored inside can easily add $1,000 to $4,000 more to its value compared to one sitting outside.

Regular maintenance is not only important for your expensive tractors it is also a good advice for all your equipment, from your planter to your grain moisture tester.

For example, when not in use the batteries of a moisture content tester should be removed from the device, and a regular maintenance check before the harvest season starts is recommended.  Service and repair should always be done by qualified technicians, who know the products well, and have the parts of the respective brand at hand.
